    RBHS Chancellor Awards for Faculty

     

     

    Distinguished Mentor Award (up to 2 faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility: 

    Faculty who are 0.5 FTE or greater on any faculty track who mentor postdocs, fellows, and/or faculty in addition to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students may be considered for this award. 

    Criteria: 

    Exceptional mentoring record evidenced by: 

    • Length and breadth of the nominee’s mentoring and career development activities 
    • Impact of the mentoring activities on the career trajectories, successes, and bodies of work of the mentees 
    • Unique aspects of the mentoring and training activities that have contributed broadly to the missions of RBHS 

    Materials for Nomination: 

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual.  It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected. 
    • Letter from department chair or other unit leader detailing the overall strengths of the nominee as a mentor (2-page limit) 
    • CV of nominee 
    • List of faculty and/or trainees mentored by the candidate 
    • 4 additional letters of support from trainees or faculty mentored by the nominee detailing how the nominee impacted their careers (1-page limit per letter)

    Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award (up to 2 faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility:

    Faculty who are 0.5 FTE or greater on any faculty track may be considered for this award.

    Criteria:

    The nominees shall be champions for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion who demonstrate:

    • Sustained contributions, leadership, and/or active commitment to promoting opportunities and enhancing engagement for diverse students, staff, faculty, patients, and /or communities
    • Efforts to foster a more inclusive culture and climate that promotes success for all
    • Inclusive education, scholarship, and/or service that helps advance understanding of or addresses health equity and health disparities

    Materials for Nomination:

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual. It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected.
    • Letter from primary nominator detailing how the nominee has demonstrated excellence as a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion highlighting the impact of the specific contributions of the nominee (2-page limit)
    • CV of nominee
    • 2 additional letters of support (1-page limit per letter)

    Basic Sciences Distinguished Researcher Award (up to 2 awards for early career faculty and up to 2 awards for established investigator faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility:

    Faculty who are 0.5 FTE or greater on any tracks may be considered for this award. Faculty will be considered based on appropriate expectations for their career (early/advanced). Early career applies to faculty at the Assistant Professor rank, and established investigator applies to Associate Professors, Professors or Distinguished Professors.

    Criteria:

    Candidates for these awards should demonstrate evidence of impactful basic science or translational research as evidenced by:

    • National or international visibility appropriate for career stage
    • Impact of research, typically based on candidate publications
    • Career-stage appropriate grant support track record

    Materials for Nomination:

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual. It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected.
    • Letter from the department chair or other unit leader detailing how the nominee meets the criteria above and may specifically highlight prizes and awards for scientific contributions, peer review panels for grant applications, etc. (2-page limit)
    • CV of nominee
    • Statement from the nominee indicating 2-3 key publications with a brief statement of the impact of the study (maximum of 150 words per publication)
    • 2 additional letters of support with at least one being from outside Rutgers University (1-page limit per letter)

    Clinical or Health Sciences Investigator Award (up to 2 awards for early career faculty and up to 2 awards for established investigator faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility:

    Faculty who are 0.5 FTE or greater on any track may be considered for this award.  Faculty will be considered based on appropriate expectations for their career (early/advanced) stage. Early career applies to faculty at the Assistant Professor rank, and established investigator applies to Associate Professor, Professor, or Distinguished Professor.

    Candidates for these awards should demonstrate evidence for impactful clinical or health sciences research as evidenced by:

    • National or international visibility appropriate for career stage

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual. It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected.

    Community Service Award (up to 2 faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility: 

    Faculty who are 0.5 FTE or greater on any faculty track may be considered for this award. 

    Criteria: 

    The nominee would have a record of sustained excellence in serving the community outside Rutgers that includes: 

    • Demonstrated lasting and meaningful contribution or impact on the community(ies) served 
    • Recognized as a role model for others through their compassionate commitment to service to others 
    • Significant contributions to the community(ies) through their time, actions, and dedication 

     Materials for Nomination: 

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual.  It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected. 
    • Letter from department chair or other unit leader detailing how the nominee meets the criteria above (2-page limit) 
    • CV of nominee 
    • 2 letters of support from members of the external community served (1-page limit per letter) 
    • 1 letter of support from within the Rutgers community (1-page limit)

    Clinical or Healthcare Excellence Award (up to 2 faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility:

    Faculty who are 0.5 FTE or greater on any faculty track may be considered for this award.

    Criteria:

    The nominee would have a record of sustained excellence in clinical and/or healthcare which may be evidenced by:

    • Concrete examples of clinical or healthcare delivery excellence
    • Developing new clinical/healthcare programs
    • Developing healthcare policy or public health programs
    • Expanding access to underserved communities

    Materials for Nomination:

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual.  It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected.
    • Letter from department chair or other unit leader detailing how the nominee meets the criteria above (2-page limit)

    Distinguished Educator Award (up to 2 faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility:

    Faculty who are 0.5 FTE or greater on any faculty track may be considered for this award.

    Criteria:

    The nominee would have a record of demonstrated passion, service, and innovation to education with sustained excellence which may be evidenced by:

    • Incorporating educational innovation into day-to-day academic activity
    • Designing, implementing, and assessing novel curricula
    • Serving as a role model for mentoring and advising students and trainees
    • Recognition by peers (and/or students) through demonstrated educational scholarship, invited presentations, and/or teaching excellence awards

    Materials for Nomination:

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual.  It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected.
    • Letter from department chair or other unit leader detailing how the nominee meets criteria above (2-page limit)
    • CV of nominee
    • 3 letters of support from students or other faculty who with detailed knowledge regarding candidate contribution to educational endeavors (1-page limit per letter)

    Distinguished Innovator Award (up to 1 faculty will be selected)

    Eligibility:

    Faculty who are 0.5FTE or greater on any faculty track may be considered for this award.

    Criteria:

    The nominee for this award will have a reputation for innovation for their field and/or mission area. Some examples might include:

    • Innovation in research as evidenced by novel methods or products (e.g., inventions, patents, licensing agreements, new business development)
    • Innovation in instructional design or implementation (teaching and education) involving interdisciplinary and/or integrative collaborations that utilize transformative new platforms, paradigms, or
    • Innovation in community engagement involving collaborative projects that engage external partners (e.g., business, community, government, non-profit organizations) in transformative partnerships

    Materials for Nomination:

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual. It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected.
    • Letter from department chair or other unit leader describing the innovation warranting the award (2-page limit)
    • CV of nominee
    • 2 additional letters of support which address the impact of the innovation (1-page limit per letter)

    Lifetime Distinguished Achievement Award (up to 2 faculty annually)

    Eligibility:

    Faculty who are 0.5FTE or greater on any faculty track may be considered for this award.  Faculty must be currently at the rank of professor or distinguished professor.

    Criteria:

    This award recognizes truly outstanding accomplishments and, therefore, may not be awarded every year. Nominees in this category will be established and renowned faculty members who have a distinguished record of consistent achievement in at least one of the RBHS mission areas (research, clinical care, education, service to their profession and to Rutgers University) which will be evidenced by:

    • A demonstrated record of sustained excellence and track record in their mission area(s)
    • The highest standard of service to their mission area and to Rutgers University

    Materials for Nomination:

    • Completed application form including a 20 word or less descriptor of why you are nominating the individual.  It will be used in the announcements should the nominee be selected.
    • Letter from department chair or other unit leader detailing how the nominee meets the criteria above (3-page limit)
    • Letter of support from the Dean (1-page limit)
    • 3 letters of support (2-page limit)
    • CV of nominee
    • A short biography (300 words)
